Wet Felting
This bag was my second wet felting project, and was a gift for my roommate. It took a good two hours to wet felt the initial white piece, plus a couple weeks of on-and-off work on the leaf design, which I needle-felted on. I sewed the bag together with a blanket stitch, and used a beautiful wooden button and elastic to secure the bag closed. All in all, this piece turned out to be a big improvement from my first wet felting project!...

Needle Felting
This whimsical little mermaid was crafted for one of my aunts. It took an extremely long time to complete, but was well worth the effort! All the details of her face were needle-felted on...
Card Making
Back in the days when I actually cared about the holiday, I used to make hand-made Valentines for my friends. Pictured below are two of my favorites. One was made from various seashells, glued onto textured paper and tied with a raffia bow. The other was made from red construction paper, a paper doily, and tiny hand-stitched yo-yo's made from different patterns of cloth. I remember having to start sewing the yo-yo's in December to have them done by February! ...

Wet Felting
This cute little clutch was my first wet felting project. Wet felting is very different from needle felting. Instead of matting fibers with a barbed needle, wet felting interlocks and compacts wool fibers by using warm water, soap and rubbing motions. It's a lot easier than needle felting, especially when making large pieces of flat fabric. I stitched the clutch together with embroidery floss, made a heart-shaped cutout in the fabric (which I patched with blue felt), and needle felted on the little owl. It is held closed with a clear sewn-on snap. I found the unfinished edges of the felt to be very interesting, and I left them on for decoration instead of cutting them off. More experimentation to come...

Bracelet Making
Seeing spikes? Yikes! The bracelet on the far right was crafted from hemp cord and real sea urchin spikes (hooray for scavenging around tide pools!). The two bracelets on the left were made from different colors of embroidery floss...
Notebook Design
I made this notebook for my final project in my Intro to Graphics class last year. I started with a picture of a pre-WWII Japanese flag, and layered on various textures and Japanese characters. Final touch? A vectorized image of my friend Lindsay! (original graphic shown on bottom)...
